As a leading member of the Goed Wonen foundation, De Vries was of great significance for the development of Dutch post-war interior and furniture design. He is known as a functionalist designer who strove for good, affordable and modern furniture. De Vries fulfilled a pioneering role by having his designs made in-house by a furniture maker just after the Second World War, when there was virtually no furniture on the market, and selling them in his own shop De Sleutel.
