'6' Oak & Papercord "Church Chairs" by Viggo Hardie-Fischer for Sorø Stolefabrik

About the Item

A rare and highly collectible set of (6) "Church Chairs", designed by the enigmatic Danish architect Viggo Hardie-Fischer for Mariehøj Church in Silkeborg. Hardie-Fischer took over as architect of the church following the death of its original architect, Harald Lønborg-Jensen in 1948. The church was consecrated in 1958. The unconventional design was inspired by other Modernist church architects of the time, including Kaare Klint. Simple, sturdy, and elegant, Hardie-Fischer's Church Chair remains in everyday use within the nave of Mariehøj Church to this day. Beyond the church walls, the design has endured for over 60 years, becoming a sought-after fixture in modern dining rooms across the globe. Crafted from solid oak and durable papercord, each chair boasts a clean-lined ladder-back silhouette. The warm, rich tones of the oak harmonize beautifully with the organic texture of the woven papercord seats, creating a timeless look that complements any interior style, from Farmhouse to Contemporary.
