About the Item

A striking design from the British designer Sebastian Blakeley. This piece titled Antilopé, which translates as the antelope chair, combines American black walnut with polished aluminium. Within this design the pairing of materials and form combines to create a truly stunning piece. The conversation between the components and their materials was key for Sebastian in developing this design. A very comfortable and stylish dining chair, the quality of this piece both aesthetically and ergonomically means it can be utilized as an everyday piece in the home or in a high end restaurant environment. Biography: Sebastian was born into an artistic family, growing up in Cornwall, West England, he was surrounded by art and inspiration. He excelled in his youth at woodwork and his abilities grew. He studied design and furniture making in London, then went on to work for a fine furniture maker. Four years later he had set up his own business producing bespoke furniture for clients and started to experiment with his own prototype designs. In 1985, Sebastian moved to Tuscany, Italy where he restored a 13th century farmhouse. That project ran for 3 years, by which point Sebastian had Italy running through his veins. After this restoration was complete, he remained in Italy and set up shop as a designer/craftsman. His skill set by this point, landed him employment prototyping designs for Italian firms “Nuevo Metal Mobile” and “Bernini”. This was the launch pad for Sebastian to seriously develop his own designs in parallel. A process which has never ceased and has led to the designs you see on 1stdibs today.
