About the Item

a pretty series of 6 rustic chairs by Charlotte Perriand the chairs have been freshly reupholstered by a specialist the beech structure is very solid with a beautiful 60's patina Born to a tailor father and a seamstress mother for haute couture in 1903 in Paris, Charlotte Perriand graduated from the Central Union of Decorative Arts in 1925. From the age of 24, she became known with his bar under the roof, in metal, created for his apartment-workshop in place Saint-Sulpice and acclaimed by critics. She then began to collaborate with Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier. Associated with their workshop in 1928, she will work alongside them for ten years. A partnership that gives rise to pieces that have become emblematic, such as the B308 table, the B306 lounge chair or the Grand Confort armchair. It equips, among others, the villa of the banker La Roche in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and that of the Church family in Ville d'Avray (Hauts-de-Seine). In 1929, alongside René Herbst, Pierre Chareau, Robert Mallet-Stevens and Eileen Gray, she founded the UAM (Union of Modern Artists), an avant-garde wishing to combine modernism and rationalism, while preserving tradition. Charlotte Perriand multiplies research on the minimum habitat, but also on the modular weekend house and the prefabricated mountain refuge. In the 1940s, she was invited as an industrial art consultant to Japan. A trip that will give him the taste of wood, straw and bamboo. On her return, she resumed her research on collective equipment with the development of the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris in 1952. She created multifunctional furniture for the occasion. Charlotte Perriand has developed a new concept of housing, with a strong human dimension, influenced by her pro-communist political commitment. His passion for the mountains led him to participate in the creation of the resort of Les Arcs, in Savoie (1967-1989). It is the culmination of his research on collective housing and interior design. Charlotte Perriand died in 1999, in Paris. Its furniture has been reissued since 2004 by Cassina.
