Desk Chair in Teak by Kurt Østervig for International Designers, Denmark, 1960s

About the Item

Introducing a rare, side/desk chair in teak by Kurt Østervig for International Designers, crafted in the 1960's in Denmark. This now iconic chair is constructed from solid Burmese teak, showcasing the natural beauty of the wood grain and unique coloration. The curved back and the characteristically sleek, minimalist lines add a touch of elegance to the design while the tapered legs add a sense of lightness and airiness. The deep red knit fabric atop the oversized cushions adds warmth and comfort making this chair perfect for desks and office spaces. Danish furniture designer Kurt Østervig (1912-1986) began his career as a naval architect before changing career paths in favor of design. Østervig worked for manufacturer E. Knudsen before opening his own studio in 1947 where he continued to work as a freelance designer for the rest of his career, collaborating with an array of Danish furniture brands in the mid-century era, including Bernh, Pedersen & Son, Bramin, Jason, Rolschau, Sibast, and Vamo, to name but a few. This architecturally captivating chair is a true collector's item, perfect for those who appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of Danish Modern furniture and the ingenious creations by Kurt Østervig. With it's unique teak construction, comfortable seat, and elegant design this chair is sure to make a BOLD statement in any office or living space. Make it yours today before it's gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 20 in / 50.8 cm Depth: 20 in / 50.8 cm Height: 30.5 in / 77.47 cm Seat Height: 19.5 in / cm Condition Details: This exquisite desk chair has recently undergone a partial restoration featuring new upholstery. The solid teak construction is in 100% original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection showing only light nicks and surface scratches which can be seen in the detail photos provided. With that said the wood is in overall very good shape and the teak woodgrains are absolutely mesmerizing in natural light. The upholstery, redone in a fabulous vintage red tweed, is in showroom condition and perfectly offsets the warm woodgrains of the solid teak frame. This visually striking chair is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use. Please view all photos for details on this desk chair's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
