Eight Custom Dining Chairs by Juan Montoya

About the Item

Set of eight dining armchairs custom designed by Juan Montoya in 1990 for a private residence in Georgetown DC. Fabricated and upholstered by Ken Flam in white textured fabric by Clarence House. Cube form black lacquered wood frame chairs with inset back, seat and inside cushion panels, the exterior sides and back decoratively inset in panels, three on each side, emphasizing the vertical black lines. The square form barrel back shape is a nod to Josef Hoffman. Each chair has twelve padded panels plus the seat cushion. For display purposes we have recovered two chairs in a white slubbed silk. The panels and seat cushions have been removed from each chair and are ready to be shipped to your upholsterer (or ours - quote available upon request). The eight black lacquered wood chair frames have been professionally restored and are ready to receive the newly recovered panels and cushions. These chairs are a custom creation by Juan Montoya and were never put into production. Shown with our dining table by Ward Bennett for Brickel Associates, available separately. We also have all the major pieces by Montoya from this project. Provenance: Juan Montoya Interior, Private Collection, Washington, D.C. Literature: Featured in the January 1991 issue of Interior Design magazine and the book "Juan Montoya", ed. Benjamin Villegas, Villegas Editores, 1998, pp. 64-71.
