Inspired by utilitarian furniture, the Gradual Lounge Chair plays with the proportions of different size turned wood parts. The front and back legs are different diameters, and the back tapers, declining gradually to allow for a slung leather back. Leather forms the seat to complete the design. The work is finished with a fabric cushion back and seat. ------ Founded in 2017, Ben Kicic is a research-based design firm based in New York City, centered around the belief that design is a gesture toward simplicity, small details, livability, and practicality. To that end, the studio creates objects and interiors that engage in a dialogue with functionality, art, culture, and material history. Ben Kicic's practice is the culmination of over a decade of experience as a designer, working with various design firms before establishing his own practice. Drawing inspiration from the hidden contours that shape contemporary life, his work is an exploration of the language of objects, materials, and spaces—a meditation on how we live, what we value, and why. The studio regularly produces collections of furniture, lighting, and objects, as well as offering services for private residential interiors.
