About the Item
A Pair of French rush/straw dining chairs designed in the style of Charlotte Perriand Dordogne chairs. Produced circa 1960, probably by Robert Sentou, France.
The chairs are made of solid teak-wood. Freshly renewed straw/rush seats and backrests by experienced craftsmen.
The "Dordogne" chair and others like the "Courchevel" or "Meribel" models were created by Charlotte Perriand for the "Les Arcs" winter sports resort in the French Alps during the 1960-70s.
Sentou was founded in 1947 as part of a rehabilitation project for the inmates of Mauzac prison in southwest France. The workshop developed an expertise in chair caning, which was very popular back then. Business took off and soon Robert Sentou opened a second, much larger workshop-factory not far from Bergerac.
It was Robert Sentou (1922-2008), that Charlotte Perriand called on to produce the chairs and armchairs for winter sports resorts. that she equips: that of Flaine in particular, but also Orcières, Avoriaz, Méribel, Chamrousse, and later Les Arcs.

- Condition:Refinished. Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. The straw of the seats and backrests has been replaced by respecting the original technique and aspect. A fresh finish coat of hardening oil has been applied without altering the patina.
