Red Sof Tech Chairs by David Rowland for Thonet (set of 4) (8 available)

About the Item

Set of 4 David Rowland for Thonet Sof-Tech dining chairs. Surprisingly comfortable. Wear consistent with age. Chairs feature David Rowland's patented "Soflex" seat and back in original school bus color vinyl plastisol on tubular chrome frame. - Soflex is a material invented by Rowland in 1973 in which sinuous metal springs are dipped in vinyl plastisol. When cured, the plastisol hardens and holds the springs together, forming a thin, open-mesh, resilient seating material. It is easy to see Rowland's design beginning as early as 1952 with his "Transparent Chair" for The No-Sag Spring Company of Detroit and his 1957 Zig Zag Cantilever Chair. The Softec Chair incorporates Soflex, Rowland’s resilient seating material described above. The chair stacks compactly and is produced in numerous variations. The design won two Institute of Business Designers (I.B.D.) Gold Medals and was awarded patent No. 3,767,261. All References from davidrowland.design.
