About the Item

A beautiful set of four dining chairs by Herta-Maria Witzemann, model SW88, manufactured by Wilde + Spieth in Germany, 1954. This amazing set has a unique, Minimalist design made of thin black lacquered metal with wicker seats and backs. The structure of the pieces make them very appealing from every angle, the seat and back have a floating appearance that contributes very nicely to the style. They are made with an impressive eye for detail and of only the highest quality materials. They will make an amazing addition to the interior and add a true sense of luxury to the decor. In good original condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Herta-Maria Witzemann (1918-1999) had a decisive influence on daily life in Germany in the 1950s. As well as designing countless town halls, spa rooms and administration buildings, she was also responsible for many prominent projects such as the German Baden-Württemberg Landtag (state parliament) and the Kanzlerbungalow (Chancellor’s Bungalow) in Bonn. She also acquired an excellent reputation as a furniture designer, working on behalf of various international manufacturers. Witzemann shared her knowledge and experience with successive generations of talented interior architects as an author and as a lecturer at the State Academy of Visual Arts in Stuttgart, and from 1972 until 1977 was president of the Association of German Architects. Her achievements and commitment were not only acknowledged by awards for her exhibitions, but also with the First Class Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
