Set of Six Olavi Hänninen Juha Chairs, HMN
About the Item
Mikko Nupponen(1874-1954) owned the company HMN Huonekalu Mikko Nupponen, that manufactured furniture in the Lahti area in Finland.
In 1928 Mikko already had shops in a few locations in Finland, including Helsinki, Vaasa and Viipuri.
However, one reason his company didn`t fare well economically is because he concentrated on high quality hand made furnitures that automatically demanded a highly qualified work force.
You can immediately see that these chairs are not your every day chairs. They are sturdy and designed by Olavi Hänninen (1920-1992), one of Finland´s leading furniture designers in the middle of the 20th century. They are made of Finnish birch and are quite heavy for there size. These chairs were painted in black, and their condition wasn`t flattering, so we took the paint off and had a professional cabinetmaker refinnish them into their current condition, which is excellent. These chairs can even be collectors items for they are nowaday trendy, minimalist and brutalist design at its best. Although these are seen every now and then, a set of 6 chairs is not easy to come by anymore.
