Vintage Set of 12 Mahogany Chippendale Dining Chairs Mid 20th Century

About the Item

A beautiful Vintage set of twelve solid mahogany Chippendale Revival dining chairs, comprising ten sidechairs and two armchairs, dating from the mid 20th century. They have been crafted from hand carved solid flame mahogany with drop in seats that have been reupholstered in a stunning tan leather. These chairs have beautifully shaped and carved backrests with an attractive pierced central splat. The carvers have curved open arms and they all have splay legs to the back with elegant carved cabriole legs. The chairs are a rich mahogany colour with a striking grain and good patina. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THESE ITEMS ARE MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A3283.
