About the Item

Original French Art Deco settee plus chairs and matching table. This spectacular set with intricate carving throughout the frame represents that ‘old world craftsmanship’ all solid wood. The set was made circa 1920-1924 and represents the period of transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. The significant floral carved frames are very three dimensional. Carved fluted details around the seat areas help to enhance the deeply carved lines of the legs. This detail follows all the way down to the scroll and ball foot. This complete vintage set is attributed to French designer Paul Follot. This set has just been lovingly restored in the following ways. Hand polished wood frames keeping the original color finish intact and looking great. New iridescent silky velvet upholstery all around completed using French upholstery nails, very labour intensive. Our restoration goal was to keep as much originality as possible. If you look closely at the channelled backs, we were able to re-use the original decorative rope which outlines the inside of all the channels. The fabric color chosen was very similar to match the original in every possible way. In addition to the settee and two chairs (each piece comes with its own lumbar pillow), there is a matching side table with original marble top. It is very unusual to find all these pieces at once, it came to us from the original estate. The set is now ready to serve you, as an heirloom set for years to come. Paul Follot was one of a group of designers who contributed in so many varied ways to the decorative arts: not just in the furniture for which he is most famous, but in art, architecture, jewelry, graphics, wallpaper and tableware.
