  • Poul Kjærholm for E. Kold Christensen Pair of 'PK20' Lounge Chairs in Leather
By E. Kold Christensen, Poul Kjærholm
    Located in Waalwijk, NL
Poul Kjærholm for E. Kold Christensen, pair of lounge chairs model 'PK20', leather, chrome-plated steel, Denmark, 1968 A highly modern design that embraces clear lines and curvaceous shapes. A cantilever chair is all about ease and comfort as it provides the characteristic bending function, and together with the high backrest and head cushion, a pleasant seating experience is guaranteed. Kjærholm used chrome-plated steel for the base and black leather for the seating, materials that fit within the modernistic aesthetics of this chair. Poul Kjærholm (1929-1980) was a Danish designer and cabinetmaker. He had a particular interest in different construction materials; especially steel which he considered a natural material with the same artistic fineness as other natural materials. Poul Kjaerholm was employed at Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he designed a number of noteworthy chair prototypes. In 1955 Poul Kjærholm initiated his collaboration with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until Poul Kjærholm's death in 1980. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and sales of "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967, designs, which are logical to the minute detail with an aura of exclusivity. In 2007 Fritz Hansen added two new pieces to the Kjærholm Collection. Pieces that were never in production before, the PK8...

  • Scandinavian Lounge Chair "Holmenkollen" by Arne Tidemand Ruud
    By Arne Tidemand Ruud
    Located in Karlstad, SE
The Holmenkollen lounge chair, designed by Arne Tidemand Ruud and produced by AS Inventar, is a beautiful example of mid-century Scandinavian design. It features a teak frame, with thick leather used for the seating and wool upholstery on the cushions. The angle of the chair can be adjusted using the handle under the left armrest. This particular chair is in very good condition, with the exception of the cushions, which have been replaced. There is also a small piece of wood missing on the underside of the chair, as shown in the picture. Arne Tidemand Ruud was a master carpenter and interior architect from Norway. He was the son of a master cabinetmaker and attended the State's Handicrafts and Art Industry School, as well as the Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart. In 1945, he obtained his tradesman's certificate and took over his father's company, AS Inventar, in 1952. He ran the company with his wife, Solveig Tidemand Ruud. AS Inventar supplied furniture and interiors to a number of establishments, including the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. However, Ruud is most well-known for his Holmenkollen lounge chair. The Holmenkollen chair...
