Confidential Cordovan Leather Lounge Chair, Alberto Rosselli for Saporiti Italy

About the Item

Confidential Lounge Chair, Cordovan Leather, Alberto Rosselli for Saporiti Italy, 1972. Original leather appears to have the shine, feel and variation in deep oxblood color that is typical of cordovan. The Confidential Collection is one of the most important products of the Saporiti Italia history. Designed by Mr. Alberto Rosselli in 1972, it is one of the first modular systems ever made, engineered to be entirely produced by polyurethane injected foam, with a steel metal frame. The original design approach of Rosselli regarding the interlocking functional connectors covered in the luscious cordovan/burgundy leather. The bottom elements are brought together by the puzzle-like cushions that connect them, providing an overall soft and comfortable lounge environment. Matching 2-seat sofa in separate listing.

"Iconic pair of Fratelli Saporiti Italia Confidental lounge, library or club arm chairs by Alberto Rosselli, circa 1970s. One of the first modular club chairs with a puzzle like cushion connection creating a pivotal look. Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Jerome was was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. The Schottenstein family were Lithuanian immigrants who began an extensive business empire in the late 19th Century. Schottenstein Stores owns stakes in DSW and American Signature Furniture; American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB360 Capital Partners, over 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes and furniture. It also holds an ownership interest in American Eagle Outfitters, Wehmeyer in Germany, Cold Stone Creamery and The Mazel Company. Since 1950, Saporiti Italia produces some of the most sophisticated and advanced pieces of furniture of the history of Italian design. There is a leit motiv in all the company's creations: each new piece is history in itself. Catching time off balance and anticipating the future are both the challenge and the vocation of Saporiti Italia. Each item created and constructed by the company is slightly ahead of its time and it is destined to last, both in form and function, until the next era. The company, founded in 1950 by Mr. Sergio Saporiti and still under control of the Saporiti family, has contributed to the creation of milestones in the history of Italian design. During these decades of fast growing economy and fast changing social environment, Saporiti Italia set its particular international and avant-garde style. The first pieces of furniture of the Saporiti of the times were clearly influenced by emerging Scandinavian design, but with a special touch of Italian elegance in the use of finishing and materials. In 1965 Sergio Saporiti started a fruitful and “scientific” collaboration with one of the masters of Italian architecture and design of all times: Alberto Rosselli. Together they created a series of pieces of furniture – the Jumbo chair...
