Ferdinand Porsche Lounge Chair, Stamped, Limited series

About the Item

Porsche IP 84S lounge chair was designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1984. Fine construction methods, stunning aesthetics and innovation are the most important characteristics of this recliner chair. A lot of science was involved in this project. Every sitting and leaning postures were carefully experimented on and studied, following Porsche’s famous focus on accuracy and precision. Studies lead to a divided, multiple-frame construction bringing the best of comfort and accessibility. 2 frames along the chair’s sides focus on splitting the upper leg support, lower leg support and backrest. A locking device allows the user to bend the lounge chair at different angles and positions, like upright sitting, reclining or even lying flat in a horizontal position. The chair design strongly reminds the curves of the Porsche 911. The seat is upholstered in black leather. The IP 84S won the 1995 Deutsche Auswahl Award at the Stuttgart Design Center. Note: Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was the grandson of the automotive pioneer Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the Porsche car manufacturer. F.A. Porsche's notable contribution to the family's car company was the design of the 911 sports car. Later he was to venture into chronograph watches, sunglasses and a number of utilitarian items including furniture. His knowledge of various metals and their finishes used in car manufacturing as well as newer metals such as titanium were often incorporated into his sleek designs.
