Fiberglass ‘Girasole’ Chair with Pillow by Luciano Frigerio, Italy 1960s
About the Item
A rare Italian ‘Girasole’ chair designed by Luciano Frigerio in the 1960s. This chair features a lacquered white fiberglass half sphere base, which rests on a black lacquered fiberglass ring and can move freely to change angle and direction. It has a beautiful scalloped profile which emulates a flower, a nod to the name ‘Girasole,’ or sunflower in Italian. This striking piece retains its original orange fabric and one circular pillow. Unmarked. Sourced in Italy, 1960s.
Luciano Frigerio (1928-1999) was an Italian designer, artist and musician, who transformed his father’s small cabinet making business into an internationally renowned company with ten showrooms across Italy.
Condition: Fair vintage condition. Wear to the fiberglass base and sphere include several scuffs, marks and indentations, which are concentrated along the bottom edge. Reupholstery recommended; as age and use to the upholstery is evident. We have elected to sell it in its current state so the end user can select their fabric. Upholstery services are available through our showroom (Fabric + Upholstery Labor is not included in the purchase price).
