Finn Juhl FJ55 Cane Back Reclining Chair in Walnut for Baker Furniture, 1950's

About the Item

This iconic easy chair was designed by Finn Juhl for Baker Furniture during his residency in the 1950's. The model no. 436, commonly known as the FJ 55, is the American counterpart to Finn Juhl's easy chair (NV 55) crafted for Niels Vodder. More scarcely seen than the Danish design in teak, this model is sculpted from walnut. The original cane back is adjustable, facilitating several reclining positions. The arms display Finn Juhl's iconic inlays. All of the brass hardware is original. The chair has been fully restored, with the wood being finished with oil. It has also been newly upholstered in a natural, supple leather, similar in feel to lamb skin. It is in a neutral caramel tone with varying shades. The only non-original element on the chair is the leather belt used in the reclining system. It has been professionally recreated in the manner of other documented Baker chairs. Chair dimensions: 32" H x 31" W x 30" D, Seat Height 14.5".
