French 'Kangourou' Lounge Chair, 1950

About the Item

Stunning sculptural form French 'Kangourou' style lounge chair circa 1948-1952, very much in the style of Jean Prouve's own 1948 'Visiteur Kangourou FV22’ chair and Pierre Jeanneret's iconic 'Kangourou' lounge chairs with also a hint of Mategot's 'Ferotin' chair and nods further afield to Richard Neutra, José Zanine Caldas and Luther Conover's equally stunning 'boomerang' chairs all of which are extremely rare and very highly prized. I bought this chair in France and it is only the second example I have ever seen so I am aware that it is an extremely rare model. The listed price is the price we sold our previous example for. The wood frame I believe is made of Ash wood supported at the front on enameled steel legs. When I found the chair it was covered in blue fabric and the wood frame had been badly overpainted with a fairly ghastly non original dark wood stain which we have had professionally removed to reveal the underlying original lighter Ash wood tone as per the previous example we had in our inventory. Please see final photo which illustrates the chair in its as found condition. We have completely restored the upholstery including new rubber seat support webbing throughout as well as new seat foam to replace the original dry crumbling foam. The chair is finished in stunning high quality 'Everest 09' fabric by the Dutch manufacturer 'De Ploeg' . Please see image 11 and 12 for more accurate color reproduction of the fabric. The yarn twine developed by De Ploeg for the 'Everest' fabric consists of a mix of wool, linen and cotton. The play of colors is created due to the fact that the different natural materials interact with the dye differently. Photos 13 and 14 are of the chair prior to reupholstery. The final photo illustrates the chair before we removed the dark wood stain . Don't miss this rare opportunity, it will be a very long time before you see another.

Wear consistent with age and use. Very good condition with new Pirelli rubber strapping, Pantera foam and De Ploeg upholstery, wood base has been refurbished and can be stained / waxed upon request, it is now unfinished ashwood.
