Fritz Neth Lounge Chair for Correcta Sitzformbau, Germany, 1950s
About the Item
This rare and unique lounge chair or cocktail chair is - along with the Madame - Fritz Neth’s most sought after seating design.
The design language is entirely dedicated to the organic-modern style of the 1950s. Much like in Scandinavia, the mid-century in Germany gave form to furniture pieces defined by quality, functionality, and reliability. The organically shaped seat gives this chair a sculptural and striking appearance. This lounge chair’s sleek lines and a stylish selection of materials immediately stand out, and even make the classic combination of black and white interesting. The body is formed like a nest, with smooth and flowing lines that hug the sitter. The wide seat and armrests are not separated, rather they are united and create an open and welcoming look. The black legs of thin tubular metal that are very characteristic of the era. The legs are quite simplistic, which is a great design choice that contrast with the softness of the upholstery while also letting it stand out. Thanks to its well-thought-out construction and proportions, the sitting comfort is also outstanding.
Correcta Sitzformbau in Kassel, Germany produced Neth’s designs throughout the 1950s. The company used to produce foam rubber shoulder pads, and towards the 1950s, switched to the production of seating with the highest quality of foam. Although Fritz Neth was, and still is one of the most sought-after designers of German post-war modernism, not much is known about him, but his designs speak for themselves.
