Guhl Chair by Willy Guhl '1. Edition, Special Sealed, Safe Surface'

About the Item

Willy Guhl was a Swiss furniture designer and became one of the most important representatives of the 20th century Swiss neofunctionalism. Between 1941 and 1980 Guhl taught at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich. This vivid but precise chair from 1954 has brought great fame to Guhl. Characterised by the fact that it consists of one single band of Eternit, it is an excellent example of the designer’s love for simplicity and materiality. The material gives it a solid and archaic appearance, but at the same time the object gains a loose and light expression caused by its curved lines. There are many reproductions of that chair. That is an original and 1. edition. We checked with Ethernit Switzerland how to restore it safely (Ethernit used it with a very little amount of asbestos, but we are happy that we were able to seal that for additional security). So we have found a way to seal the surface and make it 100% usable, even for interior spaces. The seal is not visible, so that it looks still original and not lacquered. Just take care not to damage the surface.
