Huub & Adelheid Kortekaas 'Engelhart' Chair in Black Fiberglass

About the Item

Huub & Adelheid Kortekaas, lounge chair model 'Engelhart', fiberglass, The Netherlands, 1970 'Engelhart', meaning the heart of an angel in Dutch, is designed by the artist duo Adelheid and Huub Kortekaas for their home, or so to speak their conceptual artwork 'De Tempelhof' situated in Winssen, Holland. The concept of the first 'Angel' dates from 1967 and was created in the Doddendaal Castle. According to Huub & Aleid Kortekaas, angel means: 'The Angel in the field of tension between the masculine and the feminine, from the awareness that we are first and foremost human.'. This whimsical construction is executed in one piece of black moulded fiberglass. It features biomorphic shapes, a design element that fits within the universal visual language realized by the designer duo. Besides its aesthetic appeal, functionality comes into play as it allows the user to take different position in the wide seat. A truly magnificent and postmodern piece that will grab everyone's attention. This model is currently rare and hard to find. The chair can be admired in the exhibition "Everyday, Someday and Other Stories. Collection 1950-1980" organized by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Please note that this item is in good, used condition.
