  • Poul Kjærholm Pair of 'PK31-1' Lounge Chairs in Original Black Leather
By Poul Kjærholm, E. Kold Christensen
    Located in Waalwijk, NL
Poul Kjærholm for E. Kold Christensen, pair of 'PK 31-1' lounge chairs, leather, chrome-plated steel, Denmark, 1958. The design features Poul Kjaerholm’s ability to work with exquisite materials and minimalism. The shapes are modest, yet elegant. The chairs still contain the original leather and original stuffing. The seats rest on chrome-plated steel frames, as Kjaerholm extensively used steel frames in his designs rather than the traditional wood. Poul Kjærholm (1929-1980) was a Danish designer and cabinetmaker. He had a particular interest in different construction materials; especially steel which he considered a natural material with the same artistic fineness as other natural materials. Poul Kjaerholm was employed at Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he designed a number of noteworthy chair prototypes. In 1955 Poul Kjærholm initiated his collaboration with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until Poul Kjærholm's death in 1980. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and sales of "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967, designs, which are logical to the minute detail with an aura of exclusivity. In 2007 Fritz Hansen added two new pieces to the Kjærholm Collection. Pieces that were never in production before, the PK8...

  • Karl-Erik Ekselius - Oak lounge chair by JOC Sweden
    By Karl-Erik Ekselius
    Located in Klintehamn, SE
Oak lounge chair, and Ekselius´ version of the popular TV-chair from the 60´s. New cushions with a smooth brown quality upholstery. At the moment we have 3 identical chairs. Karl Erik Ekselius was a Swedish furniture designer born in 1914 in Ålesund, Sweden. He studied carpentry in Germany and at Carl Malmsten’s school for Furniture Studies in Stockholm sometime during the 1930s. Subsequently, he worked for J. O. Carlsson (known later as JOC Möbel AB) in Vetlanda, eventually taking ownership of the company in 1961. During the famous H55 Exhibition in 1955 in Helsingborg, Sweden, Ekselius gained international recognition with his designs. Like many of his Swedish contemporaries during the 1950s and ‘60s, Ekselius originated Scandinavian modern furniture, including dining chairs, dining tables and coffee tables, in richly grained woods like rosewood and teak. He also developed armchairs and office chairs in chromed metal and supple leather. For J. O. Carlsson, he designed the Mondo Chair...
