Lounge chair designed by William Katavolos, Ross Littell and Douglas Kelley for Laverne International from the Architectural Group One line. The steel frame with black a black cross that functions as a connective tissue creates an open look a floating appearance of the seating. Upholstered in dark brown leather, the tufted cushions create a nice graphical pattern and rhythm. The design of this chair features a curve where the seat flows gracefully into the back. This chair hold the middle between functionalism and ornate design.
In 1952 William Katavolos, Douglas Kelley and Ross Littell, graduate of the Pratt Institute in New York embarked on a six year collaboration in designing textiles, dinnerware and furniture at Laverne which was established in 1938. One of their most popular designs was this side chair. One chair is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
