"Lamino" Easy Chair by Yngve Ekstrom for Swedese
The "Lamino" Easy Chair in oak and teak by Yngve Ekstrom for Swedese. It was made in Sweden, and the maker's mark is incised on the base of the frame. This iconic piece features a continuous curved arm-to-leg design. It is very comfortable and supportive, and great for reading or lounging. The chair is upholstered in the original nubby cream wool fabric, and the base is connected together with brass fittings. This chair is in very good original vintage condition, with some light scratches on the lower legs. Looks great and feels great!
Yngve Ekström (1913-1988) was a Swedish furniture designer, woodcarver, sculptor and architect and an important figure in the evolution of the Scandinavian Modernism movement. Yngve Ekström is best known for the “Lamino” armchair, an ergonomic and minimalist easy chair that he designed in 1956 and which has been in continuous production ever since. In 1999, the “Lamino” was named by the influential Swedish magazine “Sköna Hems” as the Swedish furniture design of the 20th century.
Ekström was the co-founder of the furniture manufacturer ESE-möbler (later renamed Swedese) with his brother Jerker and business partner Sven Bertil Sjöqvist. Ekström worked at Swedese for over 40 years until his death in 1988.
