About the Item

Fabulous pair of Barcelona chairs in black leather, feature highly desirable polished stainless-steel frames (notably more hand crafted than the chromed frame) The classic Barcelona chair was exclusively designed by Mies van der Rohe for the German Pavilion, that country's entry for the International Exposition of 1929, which was hosted by Barcelona, Spain. Like the building housing it, the chair was stately and elegant. An icon of minimalist design, the chair's design was inspired by the campaign and folding chairs of ancient times, Sella curulis (curule chair) Surely Mies's finest furniture design, placing them in the center of the room allows the viewer to appreciate their simple, supremely elegant construction. Please note the price listed is for a pair (two chairs) Fully upholstered in black leather Back and seat cushions are made of 40 individual panels of leather that are cut, hand- welted, and hand-tufted with leather buttons. Frame is premium grade 304 bar stock stainless steel hand-buffed to a mirror finish. 17 black belting support straps are attached with aluminum rivets for cushion support. Designer: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, 1929 Period manufactured: Circa late 1980 early 1990's Made by: Unknown, please note I found no labels or maker's mark on the chairs, the labels probably fall off over time. Most likely they are manufactured in the USA by Knoll as evidenced by the polished stainless-steel frame, attention to detail and use of high-quality materials and craftsmanship. Dimensions: Height 30.5" x Width 30" x Depth 30" x Seat height 17" x Weight approx. 50 lbs. These iconic chairs are in very good condition and looks absolutely wonderful considering their age showing only minor wear. The leather cushions are soft and supple, there are no rips or tears. The foam in each cushion remains completely intact and supportive. The stainless-steel frame is in excellent condition have some minor scratches and a very light attractive patina (no chip). There are some scuffs/rubs to the back straps on the top edges side (photo provided) In excellent structural condition, clean and ready for new home (see the photos please).
