Original 1938 Kem Weber The Airline Chair for Walt Disney, Pair

About the Item

These rare Pair of "Airline Chair" armchairs by the iconic modernist K.E.M. Weber (American b. Germany, 1889-1963) were originally designed in 1934 and produced in 1938 for the Walt Disney Studios in a limited run of 300. The innovative seat, upholstered in a woven green woolen fabric, reclines for added comfort supported by its cantilevered frame. The chair consists of a rectangular seat and back cushions with wooden backing that are hinged together on the underside. The chair is supported on the sides by two wooden frames in the shape of an "e" that forms two-tiered armrests, front legs, and foot runners along the floor; vertical members are wider than horizontal ones; side frames are joined by front and back stretchers. Seat back fasted to back stretcher with leather straps and hooks. Simply put, the "Airline Chair lounge chair is a masterpiece of modern design. Our chairs have been refinished and reupholstered to their original appearance. As his most famous design, the "Airline chair" armchair epitomizes the sleek and sophisticated modernism that came to define the Hollywood of the 1930s. In 2008 Harveys on Beverly Sold an Airline chair to The Brooklyn Museum and is viewable on permanent display at the Luce Visible Storage and Study Center section on the 5th Floor. These can be Sold as a pair or a single chair.. 1938, United States
