Otto Schulz 1940s Lounge Chair in Worn Leather for Boet, Scandinavian Midcentury

$4,200

About

Superb 1930s-1940s baroque-style lounge chair attributed to Otto Schulz designed for Boet - Schulz' own high-end retail store in Gothenburg, Sweden. The chair in leather and birch wood is very representative of his innovative low swung baroque designs that have had quite a renaissance in recent years. The chair is in great condition solid and sturdy with the leather showing near perfect color and patina although also some minort crazing in the backrest. The mohair cushions shows some wear but we like the worn look against the leather. Otto Schulz (1882-1970) was a German born architect, designer and publisher who operated the interior design shop Boet in Gothenburg Sweden from 1920-1950 while also editing the popular design magazine of the same name through 1938. As the editor of Boet, Schulz played an important role in the promotion of modern Swedish design. Schulz’s furniture was very modern – and at the same time often inspired by older styles such as late baroque.
