Pair of Beech & Papercord Armchairs in the Manner of Erich Dieckmann

About the Item

Recently imported from Europe, this mysterious pair of armchairs boasts a prestigious silhouette designed by Bauhaus architect Erich Dieckmann -with sensuous and dramatically curved frames of sculpted beech wood supporting continuous seats of woven rope-twisted papercord. The maker of these chairs is unknown - near-identical models have been attributed to the Dutch retailer Vroom & Dreesmann, as well as to Dieckmann's own studio. Regardless of their pedigree, these chairs combine the rusticism of organic textures with the dynamic innovation of the Bauhaus Movement to create a stunning and cohesive look, making them a gorgeous option for any casual setting. The design world is only now beginning to appreciate the impact and genius of Erich Dieckmann, the prolific Bauhaus designer whose work has long been overshadowed by the likes of Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, despite receiving equal respect and regard from such contemporaries during his lifetime (ironically, van der Rohe himself chose several pieces by Dieckmann to furnish his own estate in Stuttgart). Dieckmann's body of work - recently featured in a major solo exhibition in Germany in March of 2022 - crackles with dynamic curves and futuristic energy. Though many pieces were constructed of sleek tubular chromed steel and lacquered wood, Dieckmann showed a softer side in his patio furniture, which featured curvaceous frames of rattan or steam-bent beechwood and woven seats of natural textured fibers such as wicker or papercord. An increased interest in this designer has made his furniture all the more desirable and popular - so snag these chairs while you still can!
