Pair of French Folding Chairs in Stained Teak, France 1950s

About the Item

A wonderful & decorative pair of scissor-folding chairs. They have a very architectural feeling to them, thanks to their minimalist design; the construction is as simple as it is visually striking. The chairs can be used as decorative side chairs in any residential or commercial project. We sourced them in France and assume this is where they originated from, but they also have a hint of Dutch modernism to them. The angular arched seat, with low legs and high backs, make the chairs also slightly reminiscent of "hunting chairs". The frames are made of solid walnut and are in very good condition. The chairs can be folded by taking the two parts apart.

  • Pair of Dordrecht Chairs by Wim Van Gelderen for Spectrum, the Netherlands 1950s
By Wim van Gelderen, 't Spectrum
    Located in Antwerp, BE
Dordrecht Chairs by Wim van Gelderen for 't Spectrum, the Netherlands. Naive, modernist, vintage armchairs in a light-colored oak. They pair beautifully with the "elephant grey" textured fabric. It's rare to find a pair of these Dutch modernist plywood chairs that were produced in the early 1950s. The design of these chairs is very elegant and does not show that they are a design of the 50s, since they look a lot more modern than they really are. The perfect neutral, yet sculptural chair for any kind of vintage, modernist of contemporary project. In excellent original condition. Newly upholstered by a professional craftsman in high-quality, textured velours fabric. Check out our Daddy Deco...
