Pair of Large Brown Leather Lounge Chairs by de Pas, D’Urbino & Lomazzi, Italy

About the Item

A pair of rare Italian patinated leather lounge chairs designed by Gionathan de Pas, Donato D’Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi in the 1960s. These tub-form lounge chairs are entirely molded of foam and covered with original thick, soft leather in a rich chocolate hue. Composed of three layers that taper to form arm and backrests, the chairs have a sculptural aesthetic. Four concealed round, plastic feet effortlessly support the oversized frames. Italy, 1960s. Gionathan de Pas, Donato D’Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi (DDL) began working together in 1966 with a focus in architecture, urban development, and industrial design. During the 1960s and 1970s, de Pas, D'Urbino, and Lomazzi became part of the the Radical Design movement in Italy, exploring new, unconventional forms. During this time, de Pas, D'Urbino, and Lomazzi developed an interest in furniture design and temporary buildings, incorporating playful, experimental elements in their designs. Over several decades, the trio won many awards, including the BIO 7 (1977) and BIO 9 (1981) in Ljubljana and the Hannover’s Design Award Winner (1998).
