About the Item
The Garden Egg Chair is one of Peter Ghyczy's best known design pieces. It is a true Space Age icon familiar to many. Peter Ghyczy designed and produced the Egg Chair in 1968 of which these signed 90's models exists in a small edition, with black upholstery and a marble white design using pure polyurethane, making it the first of its kind. With a distinctive round shape, resembling an eggshell, the Egg Chair immediately peaks curiosity. In addition, Ghyczy wanted to design a functional yet aesthetic garden chair with a lid that opens and a cushion inside. Moreover, the Egg Chair is rainproof if you leave it outside thanks to the lid. The polyurethane of this beautiful chair is finished with a dull marble texture. Finally, the special and unique color combination makes this version very special and is still in great condition with minor signs of use. Questions or interest such as a bid, can be made anytime.

The Garden Egg chair was designed by the Hungarian émigré Peter Ghyczy 1968, who started his working career as chief designer for the Polyurethane factory 'Elastogran GmbH' in Lemförde (West Germany). The license to produce the chair was sold to the VEB Synthesewerk Schwarzheide close to the city of Senftenberg. The latter gives the chair its other name, the 'Senftenberg Egg'. Officially, one third of their production was for the West German market, the rest for East Germany and for export.
