Pietro Lingeri Pair of High Back Lounge Chairs in Velvet Upholstery

About the Item

Pietro Lingeri, pair of easy chairs, beech, velvet upholstery, Italy, 1950s This pair of high back armchairs has an elegant character. Beautifully curved yet sharp rounded edges create a rather special appearance. The back forms a beautiful long line and the seat is thick and immensely comfortable. The armrests are sculptural and seem to exist as a separate entity from the upholstery. Pietro Lingeri (1894-1968) was an Italian architect and one of the protagonists of Italian rationalism. In this function he was one of the founders of the Como group and writer and editor for Quadrant. Between 1926 and 1940 Italian rationalism thrived most, and Lingeri worked on several projects including the masterplan for the city of Como. The Italian rationalists took the idea for architecture from the 19th century French concept that approached architect as a rational, calculated construction away from decoration and emotion. Please note that we advise reupholstery before use. This item contains some threadbare upholstery with loose seams and stains. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
