Swedish Modern Birch, Bambu & Rattan Longe Chair, Attr. to Otto Schulz, ca 1940

About the Item

Very rare loung chair from ca 1940 in birch (or maybe elm) with new off-white fabric to both cushions. The pegs / stems at the backrest are made of bambu and the seat cushion is held up with a rattan bottom. It's attributed to Swedish / German designer Otto Schulz for his own firm BOET that was producing furniture from the mid 1930s up until 1950 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He was also an often hired interior decorator and was always providing watercolour sketches of the interiors he designed for his clients. All those sketches are now in the collection of Röhsska Museet in Gothenburg and it is on one of those sketches called "Vardagsrum för Herr Knut Hultén" (Living room for Mr Knut Hultén) that we find a very, very similar chair in the foreground. Overall in a very good vintage condition with light ware consistent with age and use.
