French Louis XVI Style Cut-Velvet Marquise
About the Item
A French Louis XVI style marquise with cut-velvet and nail-head trim. This vintage settee from France has a softly arched back and bowed shape at front, it showcases the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary with tightly scrolled knuckles, petite flower head and acanthus leaf motifs, and a rosette carvings on the knees. This oversized bergère chair is presented upon four shapely volute style legs that terminate into peg feet. The golden cut-velvet has a nail-head accent trim which outlines the edges of the upholstery and padded manchette arms. The seat cushion is down-filled. This French Louis XVI style marquise will be a fabulous and sophisticated addition to a living room, bedroom or study.

This antique chair-and-a-half from France, often referred to as a marquise (a wide fauteuils chair), showcases all the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary with tightly carved scrolled knuckles, beautiful accent trims, and acanthus leaf accents. Flower head medallions are carved at the knees, above the four round and fluted legs, each tapering gently towards their feet.
