Edward William Godwin (attributed), an Anglo-Japanese ebonized side chair, circa 1875, probably by William Watt, with a lattice back, a later overstuffed gilt embossed leather seat, on square part-fluted supports. See Soros, Susan Weber 'The Secular Furniture of E.W. Godwin', p. 113, illus. 137 for a comparable example.
