About the Item

One original rare danish dining chair in solid pine designed by Nissen & Gehl for Jens Hansens møbelfabrik in Silkeborg Denmark 1970. It has beautifully aged golden pine color and is in good vintage and solid condition. The model is called " FYRKAT " "Fyrkat" is a term that has historical and cultural significance. It refers to a historical site and a type of fortification in Denmark. The Fyrkat Viking Ring Fortress, or Fyrkat Vikingeborg in Danish, is one of the circular Viking fortresses built during the Viking Age. The word "Fyrkat" itself is derived from Old Norse. "Fyr" means "first" or "foremost," and "kat" has been interpreted as "to cut" or "to make." So, "Fyrkat" could be translated as something like "the foremost cut" or "the first incision," possibly referring to the layout or construction of the fortress. Reaching out to Mr Gehl before his passing this year, he remembers that they paid a lot of attention into the angle of the seat and backrest making the chair comfortable without having to add padding. Mr. Gehl himself was the owner of the same model chair for many years with great satisfaction. An important collectable piece of design history. Ebbe Gehl: has received his journeyman letter from Rud. Rasmussen's Carpentry 1959-63. Employed by Nanna Ditzel 1966-67. Lecturer in furniture design at Edinburgh College of Art 1967-69. Since 1970, Ebbe Gehl and Søren Nissen have worked together in the company Nissen & Gehl. Over the years, they have received numerous awards for their unique, functional design, which has also earned them international recognition. Søren Nissen: has a journeyman's certificate from Rud. Rasmussens Snedkerier 1965. Graduated from the School of Crafts and Crafts in 1968 and joint design studio with Ebbe Gehl from 1970. Since 1970, Ebbe Gehl and Søren Nissen have worked together in the company Nissen & Gehl. Over the years, they have received numerous awards for their unique, functional design, which has also earned them international recognition.
