About the Item

A Hans Olsen designed sofa with much provenance and grace. It has the most beautiful, unusual legs that seem to pour out of the main frame. The angle on those back legs is exquisite and needs to be admired. A collector’s piece but restored with love and care to be used and enjoyed in a modern home, not just looked at. Measures: W 194cm H 81cm D 77cm. Seat height 45cm, seat depth 51cm. Hans Olsen was very much in the midst of the Danish furniture design movement of the 1950s-1960s. He had a distinctive style and his passion for wood is evident across his sofas and chairs, indeed all his furniture. There is a beautiful flow to his pieces where wood and other materials connect seamlessly to each other and you can appreciate that on this sofa too, where the legs come out of the main sofa frame. The continuous flow of lines ending in the subtly tapered legs is sublime. It's a Fine example of collectible midcentury furniture but it is a sofa that should be used and enjoyed. The frame is sturdy and robust and we’ve restored it in a hard-wearing pure wool of greys, sea greens and blues. There’s a subtle herringbone in the weave too so much up-close interest. The tones in the fabric complement those in the legs wonderfully well. Original Danish Mid-Century frames transformed - our vintage sofa and chairs frames are imported from Denmark by us, adding provenance and coming with excellent design and construction credentials. In our care, each Midcentury piece goes through a transformation, with its original spirit and integrity retained. It's stripped back to its bones and restored with professional expertise, using the finest quality materials and contemporary fabrics.
