Early 19th century Swedish Gustavian Sofa
About the Item
Fine 19th century late Gustavian sofa inspired by the Roman Empire and ancient Egypt. Hand Crafted with Gold Leaf Wood Trimmed Hand-Carved Rosette Details. The removable back allows for easy reupholstery and for the sofa to convert to a window bench.
The sofa is in original color with faux oxidized copper painted to the carvings, lion heads and female heads on the armrests. circa 1800, Stockholm Sweden.
Attributed to Stockholm master Ephraim Stahl (1767-
1820). Supplier to the Roval Court and one of the most sophisticated and inventive makers of his period.
