Fine 19th Century Carved Velvet Upholstered Sofa for Restoration

About the Item

An elaborately and powerfully carved dark mahogany sofa with curved arms and heavy cabriole legs. The leafy carved arms end in rosettes, the serpentine seat rail with scrolling acanthus leaves. The three front legs and two back ones with carved shell motifs over pendant foliate decoration and ending in ball-and-claw feet. Upholstered in a pale taupe velvet. L. 56", Depth 31", H. 34 1/2", seat H. 18" Condition: Stable age cracks to frame, old repair to right-side facing arm front, upholstery in need of replacement with stains, spots and wear with loose springing, some areas of finish loss and expected scrapes and wear to the arms and feet, in need of restoration however a magnificent antique with a strong presentation.
