Important Brockmann Petersen Sofa in Nutwood and Bouclé, Louis G. Thiersen, 1951

About the Item

This exceptionally rare two seater sofa was designed by Brockmann Petersen and produced by the cabinet maker Louis G. Thiersen & Søn in 1951. This design was presented at the 1951 Cabinetmakers' Exhibition in Copenhagen. The sofa on offer here is most likely the actual exhibition piece presented at the time, as the design wasn't put into larger scale production. The freestanding piece has a sculptural frame in solid nutwood, with an organic shaped seat and upholstered armrests. The piece is constructed with beautiful interlocking wooden connections, displaying the high level of craftsmanship of the master cabinetmaker Louis Thiersen. Recently reupholstered in a light wool bouclé fabric by De Ploeg, with small leather buttons in the backrest. Literature: Grete Jalk [ed.]: “40 Years of Danish Furniture Design”, vol. 3, p. 195.
