Rare Danish Mid-Century Sofa by Jacob Kjær in Teak & Paisley Jacquard, c. 1950

About the Item

Elevate your space with this elegant cocktail sofa by Jacob Kjær. Inspired by traditional English silhouettes, this perfectly-proportioned sofa features thin sloped shelter arms and tapered square legs of luxurious teak wood. Finished in woven paisley jacquard fabric in rich indigo-purple tones, this regal settee is perfect for an entranceway or sitting room. Jacob Kjær (1896-1957) was a Danish furniture designer and master cabinetmaker whose work elevated the global profile of Danish design in the first half of the 20th Century. Following a successful showing of his work at the Barcelona World Exhibition in 1929, Kjær was commissioned to design a chair for use inside the United Nations Building in New York, constructed in 1948. The resulting design - known as the FN chair - became one of his most famous works and remains in production to this day. Kjær's designs are known for their elegant, clean lines and classic English-inspired silhouettes.
