Rare Early Victorian circa 1840 One of a Kind Chesterfield Leather Bench Sofa

Wimbledon-Furniture Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for sale this lovely rare original early Victorian, circa 1840 aged green leather Chesterfield bench sofa This bench settee is one of a kind, handmade in England at the very beginning of the Victorian era, the leather is vintage period and correct, its original hand dyed as you would expect, the way you tell is if you pull back the folds of leather you'll find the original natural color of the hide The condition is fabulous for the age, it has the original horse hair filling, the base platform is a coil sprung affair with two central steel beams found on again only the finest models , I have removed the base cover below so you can see the age etc, the only way to tell a genuine Victorian piece is to look at the seat platform, the cover has been neatly replaced as you can see The leather is good and worn with a lovely patina throughout, it is a little rougher in a few places as you would expect, the frame is structurally sound, naturally there will be a small amount of play in the carved wood spindles in certain places, we have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom The sofa is due to be hand dyed a lovely rich whisky brown color shortly so if you like it green you'll have to snap it up soon! Dimensions Height 56cm I can fit castors for a small fee which would raise the height around 6cm Width 173.5cm Depth 74cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask.
