About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exceptional, fully restored, very rare original Victorian sofa with coil sprung front edge and feather filled cushions throughout This is one of the most comfortable and finest hand made in England sofas you will ever see. The leather upholstery was all replaced just over 5 years ago, the sofa can be used with or without the massive back cushion, its specifically designed for either. Both cushions have been restuffed with feathers and have new internal bags. The cushions are both full leather on both sides so if the worst should happen and you stain or damage one side you can simply flip it over. The old colour had faded so I've had it totally stripped then hand dyed six times this glorious Whisky brown colour The front edge is coil sprung meaning as apposed to having a fixed timber bar you have springs, this type of platform is simply put the most expensive, complicated and comfortable platform available We have sensitively restored the sofa as mentioned, the sofa has kept all its original style charm and charisma, just imagine sitting in a Mayfair gentleman’s club in circa 1860, brandy in one hand cigar in the other, an amazing time Dimensions Height 88cm Width 231cm Depth 97cm Seat height 55cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
