Paying tribute to furniture designer Paul M. Jones, John Boone, Inc. will be sponsoring a retrospective of his
designs in its New York showroom. John Boone, which went into partnership with Paul Jones about five years ago, will be showing original pieces no longer in production, newly produced designs taken from archived drawings, re-issued items, and newly designed pieces from the still-creative 80+ year old designer.
Starting as a magazine editor during the nascency of the custom design trade in New York, Jones became friendly with Michael Greer, a well-known "decorator" of the day, who helped him get started in the antiques business. In 1958 Jones opened his first store in a brownstone on Madison Avenue, starting with antiques and reproduction pieces inspired by furniture Greer purchased in Europe. The collection soon grew to include new furniture of their own design. In 1961, Jones became one of the founding tenants in the D & D Building. Collaborating with Greer until his death in 1976 Jones worked with many of America's top designers, including Billy Baldwin, for whom he created the classic "Cole Porter Etagere"; he also worked with Sister Parish on the Kennedy's' private White House quarters.
In 1985, John Boone became Paul Jones' showroom manager. Three years later, Jones sold his company to LCS in order to retire, and Boone, in partnership with John Lockwood, opened his own showroom. When LCS went out of business, Boone and Lockwood convinced Paul Jones to come out of retirement and to reinvigorate his line to be sold through their showroom. Called "Paul M. Jones: 40 Years of Classic Design," the showroom is located at 1059 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10021

$2,850 Sale Price / set40% Off - Antique English Tufted Original Leather Chesterfield Sofa Thoroughly RestoredLocated in Chicago, ILAntique English Leather Chesterfield Sofa that just emerged out of our inhouse Old Plank Upholstery Department, after a very long and exhausted stay. Restoring or conserving an old leather is truly a dying Art and very few shops today have the knowledge to properly Restore old leather. The Classic English Chesterfield Tufted Leather Sofa was invented in the mid-1700’s when Lord Philip Stanhope (1694-1773), who was the Fourth Earl of Chesterfield decided to commission a comfortable sofa for his guests to sit on. Today, the Classic English Chesterfield Sofa is one of the most recognized and popular sofas in the world and for good reason. The Chesterfield Sofa is both comfortable, great looking and never goes out of style. Our Antique English Leather Chesterfield Sofa is but one of (3) Antique Leather Chesterfield Sofas we have in stock, with each one having gone through a lengthy and laborious Conservation Process. Our Upholstery Department tries to save as much of the Original Leather as possible and generally we save about 75%. The coil springs are re-tied 8-ways by hand and we only use Horsehair, Shredded Coco Fibers, and Wadded Wool for padding. Describing the colour of this Chesterfield may be more difficult than the Conservation process. The colour is neither Black, nor Brown or Cordovan, but rather a rich blend of all three. - Johannes Spalt 'Constanze' Sofa Daybed in Black Leather and SteelLocated in Waalwijk, NLJohannes Spalt for Wittmann, sofa or daybed, leather, chrome-plated steel, Austria, 1960s. This mid-century modern sofa is designed by the talented Austrian furniture designer Johannes Spalt. The design is characterized by a solid construction based on sharp lines and angular shapes noticeable in the body of the seat and the chromed steel base, underlining the clear structured design. The metal legs elevate the seat in a graceful way, which establish an open and more transparent look to the whole unit. The tufted seat with buttons is upholstered in black leather. As outcome, this creates more visual interest and adds a graphical touch to the quite simplistic design. By only one hand movement the 'Constance' transforms from a comfortable sofa to daybed. A very elegant and also nifty technique. Johannes Spalt (1920-2010) was a postwar Austrian architect. In 1952 he founded the collective "Arbeitsgruppe 4" together with Wilhelm Holzbauer, Friedrich Kurrent and Otto Leitner. Their ideas and designs are still a great example of Austrian architecture...Category
