  • Swedish Gustavian Period Carved and Polychrome Painted Signed Mora Clock
    By Mora
    Located in Wiscasset, ME
One of the finest signed examples of a late 18th century Swedish Mora long case clock that we have seen. The decorative carving is exquisite and the paint is early and probably original. The movement does function, but would have to be set after delivery. A top respected clock conservator did go over the movement to assure functionality. The original weights and pendulum are included, as well as a key. Gustavian Mora clocks are a type of long case clock which were made in, and derived their name from, the town of Mora in Dalarna province, Sweden. Production began in the late 18th century and continued through most of the 19th century. Mora clock faces...

Joy Brown was born in Japan and spent the first 18 years of her life there. After completing her fine arts degree in the United States, she returned to Japan to complete a rigorous apprenticeship in traditional Japanese ceramics with a 13th generation master potter, Ichino Toshio, further defining her aesthetic. Brown works with high-fire stoneware clay that is fired in a 30-foot long Japanese style wood-firing tunnel kiln (anagama). For the past 20 years Joy has also worked in bronze, making figures from small to larger-than-life size. Currently, Joy has been completing various commissions in China for public spaces. Joy Brown’s work is in the public collections of many museums in the United States, Europe and Asia.
