    Tolix steel stacking stools and stacking chairs were designed by Xavier Pauchard, who was a trained roofer in France. By 1907 Xavier, later known as Mr. X had perfected a way of protecting sheet metal from rusting. In 1927 Mr. X had set up a factory selling steel products for the household. The actual Tolix stools and chairs were not designed until the 1930’s. In 1956 Mr. X finally developed the first fully stackable Tolix chairs, soon followed by the Tolix stacking stools.
