About the Item

This stool has been an icon in Spanish design since the beginning of the 21st Century. Developed by a Dentist and an Industrial Designer to improve the ergonomics of certain professions, and has since been placed in an infinity of clinics, opticians, hairdressers and laboratories. Steel structure and lever painted in a polyester powder coating and satin finish. Available in White RAL 1013, Red RAL 3002 or Black RAL 9005. Integral polyurethane injected seat. Gas piston for height regulation (200mm) in a polished steel finish. Castors are of a reinforced polyamide and a rubber grey ring. Otto Canalda The journey of Otto Calalda to becoming a successful designer brought him into the manufacturing facilities of his client companies. Otto Canalda (Barcelona, 1977) is a graduate of Barcelona’s Elisava School of Design. After completing his studies there he joined the new BD product development department Barcelona Design, where he worked closely with its creative director Ramon Úbeda. The collaboration resulted in some of the company’s most successful projects, including Inout as well as the Binary stool, designed in collaboration with Dr. Jordi Badia. Dr. Jordi Badia A dentist by profession, designer of the Binaria stool in collaboration with the industrial designer Otto Canalda. Badía was born in Barcelona in 1959. Equipped with capacity for aesthetic enjoyment and inventiveness, he also suffered from a persistent lumbago. After receiving his medicine PhD "cum laude" from the University of Barcelona, he began studying architecture at the ETSAB. The persistence of contractures lead him to collaborate with the designer Otto Canalda, to design the "Binary" chair. Its immediate success was rewarded with a Silver Delta ADI-FAD award in 2005. His chronic low back pain has since disappeared.
