Mid Century Style ULMER HOCKER Stool with Drawer by Max Bill designed in 1962

About the Item

The Ulm Stool (German: Ulmer Hocker), a timeless masterpiece of Mid-Century Modern design, was created in 1954 by Max Bill, the first rector of the renowned Ulm School of Design, shortly known as HfG (German: Ulmer Hochschule für Gestaltung), in close collaboration with Hans Gugelot specifically for the students of this institution. The characteristic feature of this iconic piece of furniture is its well-thought-out construction, which entirely dispenses with the use of screws, emphasizing not only its aesthetics but also its durability and stability. In 1962, as a further development of the Ulm Stool, Max Bill designed the Drawer Stool. Simple in form and material, it can be used anywhere just like the Ulm Stool - whether as a simple stool, a small side table, or a nightstand. The practical drawer runs on 2 additional rods, analogous to the crossbar of the Ulm Stool. The locking of the drawer forwards and backwards is ensured with wooden dowels - all without screws. Every detail of the stool, from its strict form to the careful selection of materials, speaks to the highest craftsmanship and not only highlights the natural beauty of the wood but also guarantees long life and durability. With its timeless elegance and functional versatility, the Ulm Stool is not just a piece of furniture but a design classic that enriches both the aesthetics and functionality in any environment. The stool is made of spruce wood, the surface is natural. Crossbar and base strip made of beech wood Country of origin of the wood: Switzerland
