Stainless Steel Contemporary Stackable Stool by Johan Viladrich

About the Item

Contemporary stackable stool by Johan Viladrich. Material: Anodised aluminum, stainless steel bolts Measures: L 43, W 20, H 45 cm. Apprx. 15kg Limited edition of 200 + 20AP The table is composed of two brushed aluminium plates leaning onto three lightly brushed aluminum tubes; held under tension with polished aluminum cylinders and dark grey rubber bands. The table is entirely anodised so it is very resistant to scratches and stains, it can also be used as a bench. This radical assemblage is the result of a continuous investigation into rational forms and archetypes. By using industrially produced elements and non-definitive connections, it questions the position of the designer as a maker, and the value usually attached to the trace of the hand. Here, as there is no patina nor welding, no stylizing nor drawing, all marks of the maker have vanished. What remains is the purity of the material, highlighted via different surface treatments, and a rigorous work of proportions. Johan Viladrich is an internationally famous contemporary designer. A pure design with essential forms is what characterises the aesthetic of Johan Viladrich. In his work he aims to reveal the inherent beauty of materials through refined surface treatments and subtle combinations. He uses the mass of metals such as bronze, steel or copper to create radical structures in which all superfluous elements have disappeared. Johan attaches as much importance to the final appearance of his pieces as to the mechanisms making them exist. Bolts, straps and joints are magnified and turned into intrinsic parts of a whole. The designs are transparent and each piece is a search for balance, only reachable through a meticulous work of proportions.
